Feburary 2017 Block Lotto - Converging Corners

Our February Block lotto tutorial comes from  Ashley at Film in the Fridge. I was struggling to find out a bit about Ashley, and then came across this [behind the blog] post by Rachel from Stitched in Color. Lots of great quilts in that post.

Ashley has several blog posts on this pattern,  but this one is the tutorial.

This month I have a 2 different pics to inspire a foggy, low volume palette.
source: Vibeke Design

Yes, the top left center is pushing the palette a wee bit, but it is what it is.  :-)

We will be trimming our blocks to 12.5 inches. so please follow the dimensions in the tutorial.

Background: white solids, but let's stir up the undertones a bit by adding a few warmer whites, and the palest of grey to the mix. I did mine a bit on the scrappy side, but work with what you have.

Corners and center squares: Prints and some solids are good. Keep the overall feel light and airy.

February 2017 Meeting

In January on social media quilters can be described as tracking finishes and receiving “Happy Mail”!

I have seen quilters tracking the projects they have finished this year.  Tracking or counting finishes is very motivating.  I must admit that when I sat down last night and counted my finishes, I was quite surprised,….’at three and counting.  If you are like me, a project is not done until its quilted, bound and labeled.  Getting our projects quilted often involves passing our projects on to our favorite long armer or a trip to a studio to rent time on a long arm machine.  But are our project’s ready to be quilted?  At our February meeting, Mary Dylke will be providing us some tips on preparing our quilts for long arming.  At little bit of preparation goes a long way to a great finish.

“Happy Mail” pictures are all over Instagram.  The parcel contents look fantastic.  At our meeting we will discuss some upcoming opportunities for swaps with the guild.

To lead us through the balance of 2017, we will have our elections for our open positions.  As of this evening I have received the following nominations:

        President - Louse Phelps
        Vice President - Mary Dylke
        Treasurer - Stephanie Hutchinson
        Secretary - Jera McKenzie
Social Media  - Tamara Kerelchuk and Agnes Gorombey
        Charity - Gayle Gilliss

I have not received any nominations for the Volunteer coordinator position.  However, Rebecca Marcil has kindly agreed to look after organizing our participation at Heritage Park.

As a friendly reminder, if you haven’t paid your dues for 2017 they are now past due.  Our dues cycle is January-December and they are $50 per person.  Members who join after June will pay $30.  First meeting is free for visitors, then $5 per meeting. Local membership is  $25. This is only open to those that are individual members of the international “Modern Quilt Guild”. Members of our Calgary Modern Quilt Guild must be members of the international Modern Quilt Guild.  Any further questions or concerns about this can be directed to Susan Madu at susan.m.madu@gmail.com.
